Graphic Resources
There are thousands of free graphic resource sites on the internet that make their work available for use on web sites.  You must remember, however, that all graphics and information is copyrighted (stated or not).  To use their works without proper acknowledgement is against the law!   In most cases authors request both notification and acknowledgement of their work!
.
.
IMPORTANT!
On most graphic sites you will see a warning about direct linking.  What does direct linking mean?  Instead of downloading a graphic to your own drive you set your web page to access the graphic from the artists server.   This creates a nightmare - slows down their server and ultimately results in excessive costs to the artist.  If you are going to use a graphic YOU MUST DOWNLOAD THE GRAPHIC AND THE UPLOAD IT TO YOUR SERVER.  When a site finds someone directly linking to one of their graphics they are forced to remove it from their page thus resulting in a loss for everyone.

How To Copy Graphics
Begin by creating a graphics file on your hard drive so you will have a location  for storage of the graphics you will be collecting off the internet.

For PC Users:  Put your cursor on top of the graphic that you want to save, and right click - when the menu box pops up you simply choose "save picture as"  into the file you created on your hard drive.  If the graphic is a background then a different menu box will pop up and you simply choose "save background as" - storage is the same.

For Mac Users:  Hold down the  mouse button until the menu appears, choose "save picture".  It may be necessary to hit the escape key if the graphic is animated.

WebTv Users:  Unfortunately WebTv Users are the biggest offenders of direct linking.  Because of technology of your browser you can not directly download a graphic.  It is necessary that you obtain your graphics by using a tranloader service.  This site will give you a detailed esplaination  The Transloader: What And Why and the service is Here!

 Graphics
The images you use on your web site will help convey your message but will also affect the page(s) loading time.  The old addage "Less is more applies to graphics especially in the case of animated gifs."  Your choice of grahics will depend our your artistic skills.  There are paint and illustration programs that will allow you to create your own.  Just as in the case of backgrounds, there are many free graphic sites on  the internet that make their work available.
